Top 6 Things to Do in St. Thomas

Updated: Jun 10, 2022

When planning a trip to the Virgin Islands, it can feel overwhelming with so many options! With a lengthy list of things to do in St. Thomas, narrowing down your list of must-dos and knowing which choices will give you your desired vacation is tricky. Whether you’re the adventurous thrill seeker or the laid-back beach bum, something is waiting for everyone in the Virgin Islands!

1. Ziplining

Ziplining above St. Thomas is one of the most popular and thrilling attractions on the island! You can fly above and through the tropical rainforest canopy, getting to enjoy the Instagram-worthy views all at speeds up to 35 miles per hour! This is an excursion that nearly anyone could participate in and is worth checking out.

2. Exploring Mountain Top

If racing over the rainforest isn’t quite your speed, you can still enjoy some of the best views of the Caribbean sitting still. Located on Crown Mountain, Mountain Top is located on the highest point of St. Thomas, reaching up to 1,555 feet. It’s another classic destination for St. Thomas travelers. Enjoy scenic views worthy of National Geographic while sipping on banana daiquiris, a world-famous drink created by an English sea captain who had the idea to mix rum and local bananas. More than three million Mountain Top visitors enjoy this treat every year.

3. Visiting a Botanical Garden

Looking to be immersed in the flora and fauna of St. Thomas? The Phantasea Tropical Botanical Garden is just a short distance away from Mountain Top. It boasts diverse plant collections and even carries orchids and tillandsia (air plants) for sale. With two acres to explore and more views to take in, you can expect to enjoy this relaxing trip for about an hour.

4. Swimming with Marine Life

If you’re looking for fun with animals rather than plant life, add the Coral World Ocean Park to your list of things to do in St. Thomas! Created with families in mind, Coral World offers encounters with marine life, including sharks, dolphins, and sea lions. With five acres to explore, you can learn about ocean life from a distance or get up close and personal with some of our native animal friends.

5. Shopping

St. Thomas is world-renowned for its duty-free shopping scene. You can find hundreds of shops around the island, but some of the best are found throughout the streets of St. Thomas’ capital, Charlotte Amalie. You can even find great shopping at Mountain Top thanks to the island's largest gift shop. Whether it’s jewelry, local art, perfume, liquor, or leather goods, you can find high-end luxuries that are free of import and sales tax.

6. A Private Boat Tour
